The established church has mutinied against God
(There will be no great spiritual revival or harvest before the end-times Rapture of the Church.)

Paul predicted the great falling away of the Church before the end-times with satan’s man of perdition, the antichrist. “That day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 – 1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

In the KJV it says: “a falling away” which is generally assumed to mean fewer people attending church, reduced interest in the church and often more public opposition to the church as the days approach the end-times with the antichrist. In fact, it is not “a falling away” but “the falling away” (the definite article is used in the Greek). Therefore, it is not something that might be experienced on multiple occasions, but “the” falling away which indicates a particular event that stands out on its own. This falling away will be a unique event.

Not only is it a unique event, but it is not just a time of fewer attending church and more public opposition to God’s work. In fact, the term used for “a falling away” is apostasia which means an apostasy or defection.
Apostasy means the abandonment of one’s religious faith, the abandonment of what one has voluntarily professed; a total desertion of departure from one’s faith, the renunciation of a religious faith.
Defection means the act of abandoning a belief to which one is bound by allegiance or duty, or to which one has attached himself; desertion; failure in duty; a falling away; apostasy; backsliding, the state of having rejected your religious beliefs (often in favour of opposing beliefs).
Cambridge commentary says that “This word in common Greek denotes a military or political revolt, a defection.”

Therefore we are not talking about a general falling away of outside interest in the church. This falling away does not come from outside the church! This falling away comes from within the Church itself. The term apostasia signifies a turning away from biblical truth by people within the church. The normal usage of apostasia in Paul’s day was to describe a mutiny in the armed forces, and that meant the defection of people from their required duties. There will be “the” prophesied apostasy of people within the church who will seek heresies rather than the truth, particularly noted for the last days or end-times.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 – 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

This is “the” apostasy that Paul was warning the Church about in 2 Thessalonians 2:3; a mutiny against biblical truth. These people would appear to be godly, but lacked the power of godliness. They are like the false teachers of 2 Peter 2 who deny the Lord of the Church; they teach lies as the truth; they are dry wells speaking great swelling words of vanity and dragging others in the church back into the world from which they had escaped.
2 Peter 2:1-3; 17-18 – 1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
17These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

The growing apostasy will be a sign of the coming of the end-times with their man of perdition – the antichrist. This biblical prophecy stands in stark contrast to all those self-proclaimed “godly” prophets of today who proclaim that a great spiritual revival or harvest will sweep the world before the end-times. This is rubbish indeed! According to biblical prophecy, there will not be a great revival in the leadup to the Tribulation and the antichrist. In fact, the opposite will occur, not a great spiritual revival (which they claim will bring great numbers into the church) but the great apostasy from biblical truth by those who are already in the church.

Therefore, any who get up in church and grandly proclaim a prophecy of a great spiritual revival or spiritual harvest as we approach the end-times is actually “prophesying” against the prophecy of God. The Old Testament law states that he who speaks in God’s name the word which God has not spoken was a false prophet; such false prophets should be put to death. This was serious business indeed.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 – 20But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

I am not advocating the death penalty for those who today falsely prophesy a great spiritual harvest for the church in the end-times, but nevertheless they will have to answer to God in the judgement for proclaiming a God’s word that which cannot be God’s word. Now some might say that the gospel will be preached to the whole world before the end, and yes, Revelation 14:6 does seem to teach this. However. this event clearly occurs in the 7-year Tribulation period and does appear to be associated with the time of the judgement at Armageddon. The true Church will have already been taken home in the Rapture before that final 7-year period began, and it will be Israel who will be God’s people during that time, not the Church. (If any church members are still hanging around during the Tribulation, then I’m sorry to have to tell you that you missed the boat; the Rapture will have already happened before then and you weren’t considered eligible. Please get right with God now; once the Rapture occurs, it may be too late to repent if you didn’t get taken to heaven then. After the Rapture salvation will no longer be with the remaining apostate church. Instead salvation will be found through Israel, not the church.)

So let’s get biblical truth established properly. The church will experience the great apostasy or mutiny in the leadup to the Tribulation and the antichrist. There will not be a great spiritual harvest, but a great spiritual falling away within the church. And even when the angel preaches the gospel to preach to the whole world, it will be more of a statement of the reasons for the coming judgement, rather than a call to repentance.
Revelation 14:6-11 – 6And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. 8And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. 9And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

It will be Israel that is God’s people in the 7-year Tribulation and, if there is to be any revival, it will be among Israel. Romans 11:25-27 clearly states that after the church (the time if the Gentiles) is fulfilled (that is, completed and they have gone home to heaven), salvation via the Deliverer will return to Israel and all Israel will be saved. That is, it is Israel that will experience revival during the Tribulation, not the church. Salvation returns to Israel for that final 7 years before Armageddon.

And if you as a member of a church are still waiting for that great spiritual harvest in your church after the antichrist has been revealed, then you missed the boat when the true church left for heaven in the Rapture. The antichrist, that man of perdition, will only be revealed after the great apostasy of the church (the falling away) and after the true church has gone home to heaven. And be very, very careful what you prophesy in the name of God who will, one day, judge all things we do (2 Corinthians 5:10). False prophecy is false teaching.
