3/10/21 – Daniel 2:36-45

There is a lot of cross-referencing between this passage and other Bible passages, including Daniel 7, Revelation 13 and Revelation 17. Time and space do not permit a full explanation of these connected passages, something which might have made this study somewhat unwieldy.

Daniel 2:36This [is] the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

we – Daniel and his three companions as per Daniel 2:17-18. All four petitioned God for the answer and thus Daniel is merely giving credit where credit is due. Only Daniel has come before the king but the interpretation he presents is effectively from all four, although ultimately this is God’s wisdom that Daniel is about to give to the king.

Daniel is speaking to the king in a manner acceptable to those days where the king was so majestic that it could be considered rude to speak to him in ordinary conversation. There are many parallels in history. Queen Victoria would speak of herself as “we” and not just an “ordinary” person. And it was considered the height of impropriety to turn your back upon the ruling monarch. (Instead you would bow, and walk backwards away from the king or queen until you exited the room and the door was shut upon you. Then, and only then, could you start walking forward again. You were never allowed to turn your back on the monarch!)

In the book of Esther, one could not approach the king without firstly receiving an invitation. If the king disapproved of your presence, then you might even be executed.

Esther 5:2And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, [that] she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that [was] in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. It was what the king did with this golden sceptre that decided whether or not Esther would be approved to approach the king, or to be condemned for her presumption.

Daniel 2:37Thou, O king, [art] a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

king of kings – This phrase is used 6 times in the Bible. In the OT it describes 2 separate kings:

(a) Artaxerxes (Ezra 7:12)

(b) Nebuchadnezzar (Ezekiel 26:7 and Daniel 2:37)

The phrase is used 3 times in the NT, all describing Jesus as King of Kings (1 Timothy 6:15; Revelation 17:14; Revelation 19:16)

It is not a term used lightly at all. Nebuchadnezzar in his day was the most glorious and magnificent ruler that had ever been known up until then.

for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory –In spite of Nebuchadnezzar being without doubt a very evil and godless man, God has given him great majesty and authority, in order that God’s sovereign plan for His people be perfected through him.

Jeremiah 27:6-86And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him. 7And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him. 8And it shall come to pass, [that] the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the Lord, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. (Also see Jeremiah 28:14)

In his day, Nebuchadnezzar was truly a king of kings compared with all kings up until then, and, when we look at this image, we realise that his power, glory and strength was to be outstanding out of all the empires represented by this great image. God has given all this to him for the purposes of God’s glory. Note that once God has used Babylon for His glory alone, Babylon, in spite of all its glory, is to be destroyed for its evil.

Isaiah 13:19-2119And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 20It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. 21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

Note that God can give (such as glory to Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian kingdom) He can just as easily remove. As Job prayed: “… the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21b)

Daniel 2:38And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou [art] this head of gold.

the beasts of the field – see Jeremiah 27:6b… and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him (Nebuchadnezzar).

God had made Nebuchadnezzar ruler over much of the known civilised world at that time, including western Asia and the middle east, Egypt and eastern Europe around and north of the Black Sea. However, there would have been much of the world at that time that remained independent of his authority, but this passage is clearly talking about the known civilised world at that time. In fact, while each of these empires represented by this great image was considered great, in actual fact they only at most involved parts of the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa (although the Romans did manage to cover most of Europe, plus western and central Asia and northern Africa).

Therefore, in Nebuchadnezzar’s day, there was no other ruler known to be as glorious as him. To the known world he was that head of gold, rich and glorious, full of majesty. The empire itself would be known in history as the Chaldean empire of which Nebuchadnezzar would be by far the outstanding king.

Perhaps a parallel can be seen in Solomon who was renowned for his great wisdom as well as his immense riches.

2 Chronicles 9:6Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen [it]: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: [for] thou exceedest the fame that I heard.

2 Chronicles 9:22And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

It is interesting to note that Nebuchadnezzar’s empire was not the first empire in history. In her day, Egypt was just as glorious and mighty, the super-power of her time. However, Babylon goes right back to Genesis 10 & 11 when Nimrod set up his kingdom which would one day be Babylon (Genesis 10:10).

The Babylonian empire of the Chaldeans lasted from 620 BC until 539 (or 538) BC, most of which time was ruled by Nebuchadnezzar; thus he was that head of gold and not his empire. Daniel 7:4 aptly describes this Babylonian head of gold as “like a lion, and had eagle’s wings”.

Daniel 2:39And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

After the magnificent head of gold (Nebuchadnezzar), a kingdom of inferior glory (represented by the silver) would arise, the Medo-Persian empire commencing with Cyrus the Great. While it may not have been as glorious and majestic as the gold head empire of Nebuchadnezzar, it covered a greater area and lasted longer than the Chaldean empire. The Medo-Persian empire would have existed before the fall of Babylon to Cyrus, with the Medes being defeated by the Persians in 550-549 BC, following which the Medes became part of what we today call the Achaemenid Empire. This empire lasted from approximately 550 BC until around 331 BC, and was established by Cyrus the Great. The date for the commencement of the Greek empire is accepted as 334 BC when Alexander the Great conquered the Persian empire.

(While Alexander conquered the Medo-Persian empire in 334 BC, he entered Babylon as conqueror in October 331 BC.)

Daniel 7:5 describes the Medo-Persian empire as being “like to a bear”.

A third kingdom or empire of brass (or bronze) represents the Greek empire which conquered the Persian empire in 334 BC under the leadership of Alexander the Great. His reign lasted for only 13 years but in just eleven of those years he managed to gain land from Greece and Egypt on the west to India in the east. He died in 323 BC and his empire was split up into four parts: the Seleucids in Asia, the Antigonids in Macedonia, the Attalids of Anatolia and Pergamon, and the Ptolemies in Egypt.

Daniel 7:6 describes the Greek empire as “like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.” Like a leopard it was immensely swift and quickly defeated its foe.

Even after this empire broke up at the death of Alexander, Greece remained a powerful force still until Rome grew in power, officially becoming the Roman empire in 27 BC. Greece became part of the Roman empire (still known then as the Roman Republic at that time) in 146 BC.

Daniel 2:40And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces (dᵉqaq) and subdueth all [things]: and as iron that breaketh (rᵉ‘a) all these, shall it break in pieces (dᵉqaq) and bruise (rᵉ‘a).

breaketh in pieces / shall break into piecesdᵉqaq (Aramaic) (to break into pieces)

This is the same word used to describe the stone breaking into pieces the great image from the feet upward (Daniel 2:34-35).

breaketh / bruiserᵉ‘a (Aramaic) (break; crush; shatter) These are the only two occurrences of this word.

Finally, we come to the fourth empire, the Roman empire, one with great strength and power, represented by the metal iron, but far less glorious than those before it. The Roman empire was brutally strong, beating down its opponents and breaking them apart with toughness and strength. Daniel 7:7 describes this empire as “dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it [was] diverse from all the beasts that [were] before it; and it had ten horns.

The Roman Republic existed from 509 BC until 27 BC, and the Roman Empire was established with the crowning of Octavian as the Emperor Augustus in 27 BC. He ruled as Caesar Augustus until 14 AD. He was the Roman emperor who, in 8 BC, required that the whole world (that is, the empire) be taxed according to Luke 2:1. Similar to Julius Caesar (after whom the month of July is named), August is named after Augustus Caesar.

As a side note, Rome was always described as the city on seven hills – Esquiline Hill, Palatine Hill, Aventine Hill, Capitoline Hill, Quirinal Hill, Viminal Hill and Caelian Hill. Note Revelation 17:9And here [is] the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. (where “mountains” can also be translated as “hills”) There are just so many connections here that tie the Babylon of Revelation 17 with Rome in some way.

Daniel 2:41And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

If Rome is the iron-legs empire, then this is the revived Roman empire of the end-times, demonstrated by the continuation of the iron down into the feet and toes, but interspersed with clay, denoting the strength yet fragility of this end-times empire which will actually comprise ten separate yet connected nations, all part of this revived Roman empire.

This verse above alone has so much in it that I’ll try to summarise it for now. We covered a lot of this when we did Revelation in 2018, and will cover more again when we progress further in Daniel.

In Daniel 9:26 (And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof [shall be] with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.) we find a very important piece of information. The “city” mentioned here is Jerusalem and the sanctuary refers to the temple – see Daniel 9:27 for the context. The future prince that is yet to come is the antichrist.

The people from whom the future prince of the end-times is descended will be the ones who destroy the city of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD. (“people” could mean either genetic descendants or national descendants here.) The Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD. Thus this future prince can likewise be described as being of the Romans in some way.

After Jesus their Messiah is crucified, the Jews are effectively coming to the end of their national identity with Jerusalem and the temple. They have but one week of years (7 years) to run on their timeline. It is during this final 7-year period that the future prince (whom we would term the antichrist) will sit in the temple as if he is God. Note 2 Thessalonians 2:4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Jesus described him as “the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand(ing) in the holy place” (Matthew 24:15). This event is also referred to in Revelation 11:2 where the Gentiles (under the antichrist’s rule) effectively have taken control of the holy city for 42 months (3½ years).

The toes are the ten kingdoms that give their authority to the antichrist during the end-times according to Revelation 17:12-13.

Revelation 17:12-1312And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

Daniel 7:7-8 mentions the beast depicting Rome with ten horns. Another horn (the antichrist) grows in their midst and three of the original horns are plucked out (probably because they were not completely obedient to the little extra horn in their midst), signifying forced submission to the little horn that spoke great things (or presumptuous things, probably blasphemies).

Note that the ten horns signifying kings or kingdoms would equate to the ten toes of the great image. Also note the seven heads and ten horns and ten crowns of the beast of the end-times.

Revelation 13:1-21And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

Re Daniel 7:8, the little horn in the midst (the antichrist / beast) is like a man and he is speaking great (or presumptuous) things.

Daniel 7:8I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Daniel 7:25 says that he speaks great things (the context strongly suggests blasphemies) against God and opposes God’s people. “And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” Note that “a time and times and the dividing of time” equates to 3½ years.

Revelation 13:5 says that he will speak blasphemies for 42 months.

And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months.

The anti-christ will speak blasphemies against God for 3½ years, which is the 42 months he has taken over Jerusalem and the temple, and about which Jesus spoke in Matthew 24:15.

In the end-times during the great tribulation, a woman (“Babylon”) dressed in purple and scarlet sits on a scarlet-coloured beast which, like the antichrist beast of Revelation 13:1, has seven heads and ten horns and with names of blasphemy. It is likely that these two beasts represent the same person, the antichrist.

Revelation 17:3-73So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

The number seven has already been defined as seven out of ten kings who submit to the antichrist of the revived Roman empire. But Revelation 17:9 (The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.) also defines the beast the woman rides as Rome (the city on seven hills).

Revelation 17:10-11 also says that seven is the number of kings, past, present and future. When Revelation was written (generally accepted as around 95 or 96 AD) the present kingdom was Rome. The five past kingdoms were probably Egypt, Assyria, Chaldeans (or Neo-Babylonia), Medo-Persia and Greece. Nimrod’s kingdom which centred on Babylon (and its tower of Babel) may have been the first (but I think Egypt is more likely.) The one future kingdom would be the revived Roman empire which then becomes the basis for the kingdom of the antichrist which will continue for a short while (in fact, probably only the seven years of the tribulation).

Revelation 17:10-1110And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

It is interesting to note that a number of rulers have tried to restart the revived Roman empire, yet so far have failed. These rulers include Charlemagne, Napoleon and probably Hitler. It will, however, only happen when God determines that it will happen. It is said by some that the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty was written about efforts to put the Roman empire back together again.

Daniel 7:8 demonstrates the antichrist and the ten kingdoms under his authority, three of which do not readily submit.

The fact that it is a prince of the nation that destroyed Jerusalem (in 70 AD) makes this end-times prince a Roman (either by nature or birth).

the strength of the iron – or the firmness of the iron. Even though the clay signifies the separation of each kingdom from the others, the iron itself still provides a firmness that will not be easily broken. It probably indicates the individual nature of each of the kings involved, yet still with the strength for which the Roman empire was renowned. The clay itself might be weak, yet when reinforced with the might of the iron Roman empire, these ten kingdoms will be separate yet mighty in strength. Thus the clay represents the individuality of these kingdoms and should not necessarily be seen as weakness.

Daniel 2:42And [as] the toes of the feet [were] part of iron, and part of clay, [so] the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

These are the ten kings who are both united and partly divided. The kingdom of the antichrist will be ruled by force, depicted by the iron. Out of the ten kingdoms, only seven will readily submit and the other three made to submit by force.

Daniel 7:8I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

The revived Roman empire will be comprised of ten strong kingdoms that will together try to build a one-world empire under the authority of the man who will become the antichrist. But their individuality will be their weakness, not fully unified in the achievement of their goals. It will take the brutal force of the antichrist to pull these individual kingdoms into the unified force with which he wants to take over the world. His aim is a one-world government under his authority alone. He is the ultimate dictator, ruthlessly destroying all opposition in his way to absolute power. However, the kingdom of the beast (the antichrist) will struggle to maintain unity, and will overthrow three of the kingdoms in order to maintain his savage discipline.

Note that the beast of the end-times is never referred to even once in the Bible as the antichrist. “antichrist” occurs 3 times in 1 John and once in 2 John.

Daniel 2:43And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

This emphasises the individual nature of those ten kingdoms whom the beast wants to use in his conquest of the world. The kingdoms of iron remain separated by the clay, and are both united under the beast and also, during that final seven years, sovereigns of their own nations.

Note in Revelation that they are a union of nations and their kings, yet not all acting as one, with ten heads but three forcibly removed probably due to dissension.

menenash (Aramaic) (man; human being; mankind – collectively) The equivalent Hebrew term enowsh (man; mortal man; person; mankind) derives from a root word anash (to be weak; sick; frail). The idea therefore seems to be emphasising the mortality, frailty and weakness of man here. That is, they will mingle with ordinary, weak, common man, but will not deign to be associated with them as equals. In a way it is a bit like having two classes of man: the lords or rulers, and the downtrodden masses of common man. The rulers (represented by the iron) will use common man (represented by the clay) for their purposes, but not ever accept any idea of equality between the two classes.

If this is so, the seed of men would be the offspring of the lower classes.

A similar phrase is used in Jeremiah but probably signifying fruitfulness.

Jeremiah 31:27Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

Daniel 2:44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

in the days of these kings – In the days of that ten-kingdom conglomerate ruled by the antichrist. This period will be the final seven years of this world as we know it, before Christ takes over world government in His millennial reign. This kingdom of Christ (“which shall never be destroyed”) will be that which is set up by the God of heaven, and not by man (“the kingdom shall not be left to other people”). What man controls will fail one day but what God controls will never fail, ever; “it shall stand for ever”.

The culmination of this seven-year world-conquest (in the tribulation period) is at Armageddon where all the armies of the world are finally united seemingly under the leadership of the antichrist and his gang of ten, and then this huge army will then attempt to take Jerusalem. In fact, a half of the city falls before the triumphant return of Christ.

Zechariah 14:1-31Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

Blood will flow like grape juice from the winepress, at a depth of around 1.2 metres (four feet) for up to 183 miles or 296 km.

Revelation 14:19-2019And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast [it] into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand [and] six hundred furlongs.

It is Christ who will tread this huge winepress alone.

Isaiah 63:1-61 Who [is] this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this [that is] glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. 2 Wherefore [art thou] red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? 3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people [there was] none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. 4 For the day of vengeance [is] in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. 5 And I looked, and [there was] none to help; and I wondered that [there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. 6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

Following the destruction of this revived Roman empire at Armageddon (“it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms”), we then enter the millennial reign of Christ the Messiah (it shall stand for ever”). Note that “it” here is an emphatic “it”; it emphasises the difference between the kingdoms that will fail and this one (“it”) which emphatically will never fail. A huge and stark contrast is presented here between those that fail and the one which will never fail; “it” will stand alone!

There will be no individually-sovereign nations during this millennium, but all nations will be under the rule of Christ the Messiah. This will be a truly glorious one-world government! This millennial reign will then be briefly threatened by one final attack by satan and his forces, then the reign of God will be forever.

Daniel 2:45Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream [is] certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Every one of the empires represented by that great image will be destroyed; not one will be able to survive the judgment of Christ who breaks up every opposing worldly kingdom. The great (rab captain; lord; great in power) God (whom Daniel and his friends worship) has made all this (which will surely come to pass) known to the king. The dream is certain (reliable; true; certain; sure); and its interpretation is sure (trustworthy; can be fully believed; faithful).

Note that God will never lie or promise something that He cannot or will not deliver on.

Numbers 23:19God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

It is Christ who will destroy every vestige of that great image when He goes out to fight the immense army gathered against His people at Armageddon.

Revelation 19:11-2111And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood (see Isaiah 63:3 above): and his name is called The Word of God. 14And the armies [which were] in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16And he hath on [his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. 17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all [men, both] free and bond, both small and great. 19And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which [sword] proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Christ is therefore that stone cut out of the mountain.

1 Peter 2:6-86Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Addendum – The ten kingdoms of the Club of Rome

The Club of Rome is a politically-motivated group of world leaders that seeks to manipulate the world into manageable regions seemingly with the purpose of controlling various aspects of their governance.

“The Club of Rome was founded in 1968 at Accademia dei Lincei in Rome, Italy. It consists of one hundred full members selected from current and former heads of state and government, UN administrators, high-level politicians and government officials, diplomats, scientists, economists, and business leaders from around the globe. It stimulated considerable public attention in 1972 with the first report to the Club of Rome, The Limits to Growth. Since 1 July 2008, the organization has been based in Winterthur, Switzerland. …. On 14 March 2019, the Club of Rome issued an official statement in support of Greta Thunberg and the school strikes for climate, urging governments across the world to respond to this call for action and cut global carbon emissions.” (Wikipedia)

Another website says that: On 17, September, 1973, the Club of Rome published a report entitled the “Regionalized and Adaptive Model of the Global World System, which was authored by Eduard Pestel and Mihajlo Mesarovic. The report revealed the Club’s intention to divide the world into ten economic/political regions, called “Kingdoms”, which would unite the entire world under a common leadership. These regions are:

Another view of the ten kingdoms centres on the member nations of the EU which, at one point in time, numbered ten. This view sees the EU as the basis for the future revived Roman empire.

However, we must be cautious in stating any such view categorically until we have more justification for determining such views.
